My grandfather’s sister, Lula ALLEN is listed as working at the Fairview Home for Friendless Children in the 1920 Fed Census. She is listed right along with the children. She was a seamstress, single, age 51. Listed next to her is Catherine Martin, a nurse, single, age 46. Ten years later both are listed in the 1930 Fed census working at the Galluadet Home for the Deaf in Poughkeepsie. Lula was the assistant superintendent, Cathrine was the superintendent. Does anyone have information from the 1910 Federal, or the 1915 / 1925, state census on whether Lula and Catherine were still at the Fairview Home?

      Good Afternoon Terry,

I searched the census records of the home and staff of the years 1905, 1910, 1915, 1925 and Lula is not sited at the home. Nor is Catherine.

I personally acquired all state census records for the home and could not find them. Perhaps she went across the road to St. Colman’s?

If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me.

What is the home referred to across the street? Another orphanage?
